Having just moved to Boca Raton and purchased their home in the Mizner Country Club, my client confided in me that it was essential to find an Interior Designer near her who could appreciate the British Colonial Decor. My client and I had an instant rapport as we began discussing her interior design ideas and home remodeling project. Her complete home interior design consisted of everything from custom kitchen cabinets and the interior design of her living room, family room, master bedroom, guest room, home office with custom cabinets, and three bathrooms.

As an interior decorator, I will coordinate this home design, including everything from kitchen design incorporating a kitchen island with seating, quartz countertops and backsplash tile, wood flooring, custom carpentry for fireplace mantel, including furnishings and window treatments.

At the interior design presentation, the client and I would play a game called "Which is your Favorite," whereas I would show her some home decor options, and we would choose our favorite. Not only did we choose the same item, but then I would explain to her how each element complements and accents each other and brings uniformity through her home design.

Home Decor of Traditional British Colonial Style

Traditional British Colonial - Bahamas Style Dining Room

In keeping with the British Colonial / Bahamas home interior design style, I selected a distressed driftwood-looking dining table with matching chairs and a two-tone fabric in a coral pattern. Instead of the standard single china armoire, I decided on two rustic dining room armoires with the classic British Colonial "X" style doors.

Tommy Bahama’s British Colonial Home Decor
from Lexington Furniture

I love the Lexington line of furniture and nothing says Colonial - Bahamas Style like their Tommy Bahama line of furnishings. I mixed two of their collections together to create a more visually appealing room.

I love how the bed and nightstands from the Tommy Bahama Funiture collection match the existing natural wood doors and moldings. I wanted to keep that warm British Colonial - Bahamas Style, so I selected this tropical fabric with its dark coco-brown background and aqua-blue, sage-green, and rusty-red accent colors. As for the flooring, I used a sculptured carpet with a lattice-like pattern, and for the master bathroom, we had a porcelain faux wood tile. Both flooring materials matched the cocoa-brown from the fabric to maintain the flow.

I used the rust-red color behind the bed to contrast the dark cocoa and framed it with the matching drapery treatment and aqua-blue sheers. The same aqua-blue was used as the wall color throughout the bedroom and dressing area.

The distressed black Tommy Bahama TV unit and dresser helped ground the blue walls and added a touch of masculinity to the bedroom - when designing a master bedroom that will be shared between a female and male, I always try to keep the the balance between femininity and masculinity.

In all of my interior design styles I strive for balance between scale, color, and interior architecture - Perhaps it’s the Libra in me.

Master Bathroom in a Colonial - Bahamas Style
Located in the Mizner Country Club, Boca Raton

The custom cabinetry matches the existing woodwork, and the grasscloth on the end panels relates to the Tommy Bahama bed. I added his and her storage with a mirror door to see those hard-to-see places. The crystal on the light fixtures and drawer pulls add a little sparkle and bling.

As for the master bathroom remodel, I chose this aqua-blue glass tile that relates master bedroom walls. I always love aqua and silver and found these metallic-looking liner tiles. I continued the glass tiles and liners around the room as a baseboard and crown detail as well as and architectural element over the toilet.

The mirror and pendant light was a gift from the Universe.

The light fixture is a silver metal vine with crystal glass flowers, and the mirror's frame has the same distressed silver finish as the liner tile. I painted the mirror to match the walls and found the same crystal flowers with the addition of a Swarovski crystal.

I regifted the mirror from the Universe and gave it to my client as a "Thank You."

British Colonial - Bahamas Style Home Office

This home office is in keeping with the British Colonial - Bahamas Decor inspired throughout the rest of the home's interior design. This gentleman has a very sentimental collection of sports memorabilia collected at events he and his family have attended. I wanted to showcase his collection and incorporate it into the room's architecture with the wrap-around shelf and open corbels. Having had three Pro Ballplayers as clients, I'm familiar with sports memorabilia.
